Linemen to show their skills at benefit competition
Chelan County PUD
News Release
6/2/2005
On June 11, Chelan and Douglas County PUDs and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 77 will host a Lineman Rodeo at Rocky Reach Dam. The event, the first ever lineman rodeo in Washington state, will showcase utility workers from around the Northwest competing in events including pole-top rescue and speed climbing.
Washington State Patrol troopers will also be on hand with displays to raise awareness about the deaths and injuries caused by impaired driving.
The event starts at 8 a.m. Entry is free, but donations will be accepted.
Proceeds will benefit the Andrew York Memorial Scholarship, which is awarded each year to high-school seniors from Chelan and Douglas counties who are active in drug and alcohol prevention programs. York, a Chelan County PUD lineman, was struck by a drunken driver while on the job in 2000 and died.
This year, $1,500 scholarships were awarded to Johana Alvarez from Wenatchee High School and Anika Grubbs from Eastmont High School.
