Scheduled software upgrade planned for Chelan County PUD fiber network

Chelan County PUD has scheduled an upgrade of its fiber-optic network management software May 3-6. 

The fiber department will upgrade its Alcatel System software, which controls the fiber to the home electronics in Chelan County.  This upgrade will increase capacity and allow service providers to offer additional enhanced services to their fiber customers in Chelan County.

The upgrade will be done on an area-by area-basis as outlined below. The outage will affect all fiber-optic network users taking telephone, high-speed Internet and data services from local service providers.  The outages will take place between the hours of 12:01 a.m. to 4 a.m. and are expected to leave users without service for about three hours.  Full service will return upon completion of the upgrade.

Chelan County PUD is building a wholesale fiber-optic network to homes and business in Chelan County. Fiber access has been built to more than 9,000 homes, businesses, schools, hospitals and government offices. These users now have an affordable choice for high-speed Internet and telephone services, with television coming in 2005.
