Local gardeners can learn how to cut down on water use without sacrificing their beautiful landscapes at two free workshops April 23 and 30 at Sleepy Hollow Nursery in Wenatchee.

The workshops will be conducted by Julie Winters, known as the “Gardening Goddess” from her talk show on KOHO Radio. Winters has been a Master Gardener since 1996 and teaches in that program. She has been a guest speaker twice at the Northwest Flower and Garden Show in Seattle. She is the owner of Eden Design in Leavenworth.

On Saturday, April 23, the workshop is “Xeriscape from A to Z.” Participants will learn the seven principles of Xeriscape gardening, and how to use those easy steps to save up to 80 percent in landscape water use. The workshop runs from 10 to 11 a.m.

The following Saturday, April 30, the workshop will feature tips on plant selection. Along with Winters, staff at Sleepy Hollow Nursery will help participants choose drought-tolerant perennials, shrubs and trees that best suit individual locations and lifestyles. The workshop is from noon to 1 p.m.

The workshops are sponsored by Chelan County PUD, Sleepy Hollow Nursery and Eden Design. Sleepy Hollow Nursery is located at 1276 Lower Sunnyslope Road.

The nursery’s Web site is www.sleepyhollownurseryinc.com. Information on the workshops, low-water-use landscaping and water conservation is located at the PUD’s Web site: www.chelanpud.org (click on “Conservation”), or call 661-8008.
