Falling trees continue to cause outages at Lake Wenatchee and along Highway 2

Chelan County PUD
News Release
1/18/2005

Chelan County PUD crews have worked since midnight Monday to restore power to customers in the Lake Wenatchee area and along Stevens Pass between Winton and White Pine Road. About 900 customers remained without power late Tuesday afternoon. As many as 1,300 customers had been without power at times during the day as numerous trees covered with snow and ice have fallen into power lines.

While the weather did warm slightly during the day, trees have continued to fall into power lines, causing new outages even as crews restore power in other areas. Support staff are supplying equipment and bringing food to the crews who are working long hours. Crews also have a few portable generators to provide emergency power for customers with special needs.

Repairs are expected to continue through the night and could extend into Wednesday.

Customers with phone service should call the PUD’s 24-hour outage information line at 1-877-PUD-8123 (1-877-783-8123) for updates, to report a power outage or a downed power line or provide additional information. Customers are also urged to call the outage line if they have a medical need for power.

If your power is out, please turn off all appliances and heat to ease the load on the system when electric service is restored. Please leave one outside light on so that PUD crews can see if individual homes have service.

For safety’s sake, assume that all downed lines are energized and stay away. If a line falls on your car, stay inside the vehicle until someone comes to help you. You can use a cell phone to call 911. If you must be outside, stay alert to the possibility of more trees falling, especially as temperatures cool.
