Storm brings out the best

All of us at Chelan County PUD would like to offer a big thank you to our customer-owners for their understanding and cooperation during the power outages that followed last week's snowstorm and severe wind storm.

At the worst of it about 10,000 customers, nearly a quarter of those we serve in the county, were without electricity in cold and wet weather. Not since the early 1980s have we had to face so many people out of power for so long.

Our crews and support employees responded by working nearly round-the-clock for three days. We are grateful to the line crews from Douglas, Franklin and Okanogan County PUDs, who left their families in this holiday season to help us restore power. Their help was critical in preventing many Chelan County families from spending any more nights without heat and lights.

We also appreciate the cooperation of the Chelan County Sheriff, Chelan County Emergency Services and the Apple Valley chapter of the American Red Cross in providing help to folks who endured cold, dark homes.

Seeing the county come together to recover from the storm damage is heartwarming. Although we're still settling in, it is clear that Carol and I have chosen a wonderful community for our new home.

 Warm regards,

Rich Riazzi
