Commissioners discuss cost of service study
Chelan County PUD
News Release
2/19/2008
Chelan County PUD commissioners, Tuesday, set policies and objectives for a cost of service study that will be used to set rates for electric, water and wastewater services in 2009 and beyond.
The board reaffirmed principles established during strategic planning in 2006-2007 which call for establishing rates equitably and reducing the current gap between costs and revenues for the services.
Setting policies and objectives was step one of a five-step process laid out by Joe Jarvis, executive manager of the Finance Group and chief financial officer, and his staff. Other steps include:
- Estimate revenue requirements.
- Perform cost of service study.
- Design rates.
- Implement and communicate rate changes.
Commissioner Dennis Bolz emphasized that public input is welcome throughout the process. The board will dedicate one study session each month to the strategic planning process. The next monthly strategic topic will be rate design concepts on March 31.
The board said it would like to hold public meetings in early summer when the cost of service study nears completion.
