Lake Wenatchee outage set to remove dead tree
Chelan County PUD
News Release
9/16/2009
A power outage that will affect Chelan County PUD customers on the north shore of Lake Wenatchee is planned on Tuesday, Sept. 22, so that crews can safely remove a dead 120-foot-tall fir tree that is leaning over power lines and the road.
About 300 PUD customers on the Lake Wenatchee highway and North Shore Road will be without power from about 9 a.m. to noon on Sept. 22. The tree is near the 8-mile marker on the Lake Wenatchee highway. The highway will be closed for up to 30 minutes while the tree is cut down, and then reopened for alternating, one-way traffic until the wood is removed. Flaggers will direct traffic around the area.
PUD Forestry Manager Bill Sanborn said it appears insects or root rot killed the tree and that crews want to remove the hazard before winter storms arrive.
