Raccoon in Wenatchee Substation causes power outage

About 2,800 Chelan County PUD customers were without power for about an hour early this morning in downtown Wenatchee after a raccoon apparently climbed into the Wenatchee Substation on Columbia Street and triggered protective equipment to shut down the substation.
First reports of the outage came in about 2 a.m. The outage affected customers from Stevens to Fifth Street between Columbia and Chelan Avenue including the Chelan County Courthouse. Power was restored by about 3 a.m.
PUD crews sent to the substation to investigate reported finding a dead raccoon near the metal support structure for a circuit breaker.
