Alcoa Community Solar Endowment
Schools, Agencies are SNAP Producers
Thanks to Alcoa, McCandlish Electric of Wenatchee, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), and SNAP contributors, Chelan County is a leader in solar development in Washington state.
The Alcoa Community Solar Endowment and IBEW paid for the installation of more than 30 solar stations at all schools and at seven nonprofit agencies in Chelan County. Revenues generated by the sale of electricity at these sites goes back to the schools and the community. At the Performing Arts Center in downtown Wenatchee, for example, revenues generated from a 10-kilowatt solar installation can cover 20 percent of the building's energy costs.
