An innovative program that links small, local producers of solar and wind power with customers interested in purchasing alternative energy is being introduced by Chelan County PUD.
Utility green power: Innovative alternative energy choices for the consumer
Wind power is being added to the alternative-energy lineup in Chelan County PUD’s Sustainable Natural Alternative Power (SNAP) program. The program’s first wind tower was installed Wednesday, May 1, at the Colockum ranch of Charlie and June Nichols.
Cashmere Middle School will become the newest producer in the PUD’s Sustainable Natural Alternative Power (SNAP) program this Friday, Sept. 20, with the installation of four solar panels at the school. The installation will begin at 10:30 a.m.
Revenues from production of solar power at Wenatchee Valley College will be used to build three new solar power stations at schools in Chelan County through an agreement with the Bonneville Environmental Foundation.
A Peshastin couple will become the second producers of wind power in Chelan County PUD’s SNAP program with installation of a wind turbine at their home May 19 and 20.
Chelan County PUD’s SNAP program has received the 2003 National Renewable Energy Recognition Award from the Interstate Renewable Energy Council.
Alcoa’s Wenatchee Works has announced a major new program to fund the installation of solar panels at schools and nonprofit agencies in cooperation with Chelan County PUD.
