Rates and Policies
As electric use goes up, costs also rise. So it pays to reduce energy consumption wherever possible.
A typical residential customer in Chelan County pays an average of just 3 cents per kilowatt hour (kWh) for electricity. That’s one of the lowest rates in the nation!
Our residential rates are based on a formula that encourages conservation. As use goes up, costs also rise. So it pays to reduce energy consumption wherever possible. Need some ideas? Click here.
Here is a table showing how residential rates are charged:
Monthly energy charge per kWh
First 1,000 kWh – 2.29 cents
1001 to 2000 kWh – 2.84 cents
Over 2000 kWh – 2.99 cents
Basic charge – $7.20
Temporary surcharge
Beginning May 1 and extending for up to 12 months, PUD commissioners have implemented a 9 percent surcharge on all electric bills. The rate surcharge, combined with cost-savings measures, is aimed at reducing a projected 2009 deficit of $19 million. The majority of the projected $19 million loss is due to lower prices for energy sold in the wholesale market and low snowpack. Lower interest rates on the PUD’s cash reserves also contributed to the deficit.
More information on the surcharge is available here.
