Chelan PUD commissioners this week voted to affirm the recommendation of the Fifth Street Redevelopment Evaluation Team to pursue further discussion with two firms, Steinhauer Properties and GTS/Graham Baba/Avara, for the redevelopment of its current Fifth and North Wenatchee site. The Chelan-Douglas Regional Port Authority (CDRPA) received four proposals from prospective redevelopment teams. The other two teams were Kidder Mathews and Sadie Bee LLC.
“I really appreciate our partners that have helped us move this project forward,” said PUD Commission President Steve McKenna. “Everybody wants what’s best for Wenatchee.” (0:53)
“The next step will be to meet with the developers and ask for further information and clarification about their proposals,” added Stacie De Mestre, public works and capital projects manager for CDRPA.
The redevelopment evaluation team ̶̶̶̶̶ City of Wenatchee, Greater Wenatchee Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Wenatchee Association, CDRPA and the PUD ̶̶̶̶̶ has several questions for both proposers:
- More details on elements of their architectural design;
- Discussion of project feasibility, including financing and tenant recruitment strategies;
- Community outreach plans, including collaboration with the YMCA and Music Theatre of Wenatchee; and,
- How their proposed developments fit in with recent and planned developments in the area, especially the downtown core.
The two firms will have until late September to refine their proposals and present them to the redevelopment evaluation team, which includes two PUD commissioners.
