Scammers are pulling all the stops to take advantage of Chelan PUD customers this week.
More than a dozen customers described phone calls in English and Spanish on Monday from scammers who demand immediate payment and threaten to shut off electric service.
Remember, it is most likely a scam if:
- They ask for immediate payment with cash, credit card, a wire transfer or prepaid card. Chelan PUD will never demand immediate payment over the phone or ask for alternative methods of payment.
- They ask for lots of information, such as your account number, address, or social security number.
- They call during evenings or weekends.
- Your caller I.D. shows a blocked number or out-of-town area code. Some scammers trick your caller I.D. so the call will appear legitimately from the Chelan PUD.
When in doubt, hang up and call Chelan PUD directly at (509) 661-8002. For more information, visit chelanpud.org.
