Riverwalk boardwalk damaged in Chelan, temporary detour in place

by Rachel Hansen | Jan 07, 2025

CHELAN, WA – Fallen trees damaged the wooden boardwalk at Riverwalk Park in Chelan early Sunday. Park staff closed the boardwalk for safety and set up a temporary detour via South Emerson Street.

At this time, Chelan PUD believes that soil saturation over the last few weeks destabilized the wooded hillside above the trail, causing a few trees to fall. The exact time of the event is unknown, but the damage was reported around 10 a.m. Sunday. No injuries have been reported.

Over the next several weeks, Chelan PUD will investigate the stability of the hillside, the integrity of the remaining trees, as well as the structural integrity of the boardwalk. The damage spans about 20-30 feet in the middle of the boardwalk.

In the meantime, we want to thank our park visitors for their patience while we determine the scope of repairs and permitting work required to re-open the boardwalk.
