River Road Fire Safety Improvements

WHAT'S HAPPENING IN 2024:

• The project is being constructed in three sections/thirds (see map below) 
• 2023 - First Section, 2024 - Second Section, 2025 - Third Section
• The project schedule is dependent on many factors and may change. We will continue to keep residents informed.
  
• In 2023, we installed conduit and other electrical equipment in the First Section
• In 2024, PUD crews will pull wire through the conduit in the First Section.
• We anticipate the contractor will begin digging and installing conduit/equipment in the Second Section in 2024.
• We will notify residents prior to construction activities.
  

Project Background

Chelan PUD identified the overhead utilities along this section of River Road as a candidate for undergrounding because it meets several criteria for fire risk and constructability. This project will help reduce the risk of wildfire ignition during extreme weather conditions.

This project is part of a larger plan to reduce fire risk in the most vulnerable areas of the county. That plan includes equipment upgrades and pruning trees and shrubs away from lines.

The PUD hosted a Neighborhood Meeting on June 11, 2022 in Plain to inform stakeholders about the project and discuss potential impacts to properties.
